Single-Use Plastic Ban To Be Enforced Strictly In Odisha: Chief Secy
Bhubaneswar: In all of Odisha, the single-use plastic prohibition must be strictly enforced, according to Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra.
Mahapatra, who presided over the state task force committee meeting held in digital format on Friday, gave orders for the prohibition to be vigorously enforced to District Collectors, Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs), and field officers of the relevant agencies. Additionally, he mandated harsh legal action against companies that produce single-use plastics as well as retailers who sell them.
After conducting routine enforcement at public locations, notably at tourist hotspots, all District Collectors and forest officials were ordered to provide a monthly report regarding the compliance of the plastic ban in their respective districts.
The use of plastic debris in road construction was another area of emphasis for the Chief Secretary.
Additionally, it was decided to launch extensive awareness campaigns to persuade people to bring their own bags to the market and to involve students, members of the media, senior citizens, elected people's representatives, lawyers, volunteers, and members of social organisations in the fight against plastic.
Since October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti), 2019, the Odisha government has prohibited single-use plastic in all of the state's urban areas.
The state government issued an order on July 1st of this year requiring all manufacturers and wholesalers of single-use plastic to deplete their inventories.
