Repeal Of Three Farm Laws Is Success Of Congress: Chellakumar
Bhubaneswar: On Friday, the Congress claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi overturned the farm regulations in order to avoid defeat in the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
Chellakumar, the Congress's in-charge of Odisha, told reporters here that the rollback of farm rules was the culmination of a year-long battle between the party and farmers against the Centre's decision.
He said that over 700 lives were lost in the fight against the black laws and that these lives may have been avoided if the prime minister had taken their cause seriously.
The prime minister chose to repeal the anti-farmer laws only after the BJP suffered huge losses in Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Rajasthan, he noted.
Niranjan Patnaik, president of the OPCC, said the black laws were repealed as a result of farmers' sacrifices, and that his party would always support their cause.
Mamita Meher Murder Case
Chellakumar stated the CBI inquiry into the murder of Mamita Meher will not bring the perpetrators to justice since the ruling BJD and the opposition BJP have formed a link in the state. He stated that only a Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation would do right to the victim's family.
"Now that the BJP is in control at the Centre, it would come to the BJD's aid by putting pressure on the CBI to keep the truth hidden." Only a SIT investigation can bring justice to the family of the slain schoolteacher," Kumar remarked.
Kumar, who is in Odisha on a three-day visit, claims that both the BJP and the BJD want the matter to be dropped. The two parties are making public declarations only for the purpose of gaining political mileage from the situation.
"Our agitation will continue until the case is turned over to SIT," he stated of the party's future plans in the matter.
