Electric snare claims another elephant in Odisha
Angul: Regional Chief Conservator of Forest (RCCF) Joga Nanda reported on Saturday that a tusker was electrocuted after stepping into a trap put up by poachers at Jagannathpur in the Pampasar range of the Satkosia wildlife sanctuary in Odisha's Angul district.
According to reports, the electric trap was set for wild boars in the woodland.
Locals discovered the elephant's carcass and notified the forest authority. Following notification, Satkosia Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Saroj Panda and a group made their way to the location.
The postmortem report will reveal the tusker's true cause of death. The poachers who set the trap have been sought for in a manhunt.
Some persons are being held and questioned by forest officials in the range office.
The Satkosia forest division has recently seen a significant increase in the number of elephant deaths for a variety of causes.
Early on Thursday morning, two female elephants were electrocuted after coming into contact with a live wire inside Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Judia under the Keonjhar Sadar range.
