Rare species of chameleon rescued in Odisha

Bhadrak: Wednesday saw the rescue of a rare species of color-changing chameleon in the Bhadrak district of Odisha by forest rangers.

The chameleon was reportedly observed by villagers in a village close to Bhadrak early morning as it moved through a densely vegetated area.

Many people gathered in the neighbourhood to catch a glimpse of the monster, which was also observed climbing a tree.

Villagers kept an eye on the unique animal's movements and alerted forest officials because they were concerned that stray dogs and other animals may hurt the colourful, unusual-looking chameleon.

Immediately after learning of the situation, a group of forest employees, including Forester Madhusmita Das, sped to the village and saved the chameleon. It is a member of a threatened chameleon species. It is being brought to our office. We will choose where and when to release it after a thorough assessment," Das said.

According to a senior forest authority, the chameleon has high environmental importance because it is a member of a rare species. He expressed his gratitude to the local Sarpanch and the locals for helping to save it by alerting the forest service.
