Pradhan meets Gadkari, urges actions to widen bridge at Paradip-Chandikhol National Highway

Bhubaneswar: Over two lakh villagers in 30 gramme panchayats will profit from widening a bridge on the Paradip-Chandikhol National Highway in Odisha. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has encouraged Road Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Odisha-born Union Education Minister visited Gadkari in New Delhi and delivered a letter asking for the issue to be looked into and the required action to be taken.

Dharmendra announced that the six-lane Chandikhol-Paradip National Highway 5A is being upgraded into eight lanes after receiving a plea from a BJP representative from the Mahanga Assembly district of the state. According to his letter, this development would permit a significant increase in connection, which will help to consolidate the economic corridor.

The Minister drew attention to the fact that the small bridge at Olasuni Chowk over the Gobari drainage cut on the highway collects and contributes a significant uncontrollable flow of water to nearby 30 Gram Panchayats, distressing about two lakh residents of the Salipur and Mahanga Assembly constituencies of Cuttack district and affecting more than 1000 acres of irrigated and residential land.

These communities receive severe flooding every year, and the locals are left with no choice but to mourn their losses. Despite not being regarded as a river, this drainage cut becomes its own river mouth as it plunges into the Bay of Bengal, according to a letter from Dharmendra that was made public.

As a result, the Detailed Project Report may include the enlargement of the Gobari cut bridge at Olasuni Chowk as part of the NH-5 expansion project (DPR).

Dharmendra continued, "I would want to take this occasion to humbly suggest that you have the matter examined and take appropriate efforts to minimise the flood-like condition in those Gram Panchayats and allow lakhs of people to stop worrying about being impacted by flood every year.

According to sources in Dharmendra's office, in response to his plea, Gadkari gave the assurance that the appropriate procedures would be done to extend the bridge.
