Gop ZP member suicide: BJP leader demands dismissal of Minister Samir Ranjan Dash
Bhubaneswar: After an audio clip of BJD Zilla Parishad (ZP) member Dharmendra Sahoo in which he can be heard citing seven people as the reason behind his decision to end his life went viral, including his wife, father-in-law, and School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash, the alleged suicide of Dharmendra Sahoo took on a new dimension.
The supposed phone call between Sahoo and journalist Akhaya Nayak, made public by BJP leader Pravati Parida during a press conference on Tuesday, would reportedly be investigated by the Commissionerate Police, who will also travel to Gop in Puri for further research.
"Sahoo called his friend and blamed Dash for making the decision to take his own life. Parida added that he also requested that his friend videotape the conversation and release it to the public.
"At first, we questioned Dash's participation. She urged the chief minister to remove him from his cabinet when it was revealed that he is a party to it and should be subject to an investigation.
It is important to note that on Tuesday, Sahoo's smartwatch and the hard drive of the CCTV system that was installed at his home were sent for forensic analysis. According to reports, he was controlling the CCTV with his smartwatch. It's possible that before he passed away, he sent a message to someone using the watch.
His two mobile phones were also sent for forensic testing on Sunday after being found by a dog squad the previous evening just a few metres from his home in Laxmi Vihar, Sisupalgarh. The cellphones that were retrieved after being rescued from the bushes were determined to be off.
Sahoo posted a video on social media asking the authorities to look over the contents of his mobile phones hours before allegedly taking his own life. His second attempt at suicide was this one.
Notably, Sahoo's father-in-law claimed that he was an alcoholic who had compelled his nephew, who was residing with him, to leave the house on Friday night because he was hooked to alcohol. The BJD leader also threatened his wife with terrible repercussions; as a result, around 10 p.m., he brought her and his grandchild to his house.
