Man given 10-year jail term for assault on photographer in Odisha

Jagatsinghpur: A man chopped off a photographer's palm in 2014 was given a ten-year prison term. District and Sessions Judge Anup Kumar Chandan delivered the verdict on Tuesday.

Rajesh Parida, a resident of Mankdakhia hamlet within the jurisdiction of Balikuda police, has been named as the offender. He has also been given a Rs 10,000 fine.

It is important to note that on January 26, 2014, Parida attacked photographer Biswa Prasad Mohanty with a sharp object out of old animosity. In the assault, his right palm was amputated. In the nearby village of Dasbatia, Mohanty had a studio.

Aparna Mohanty, a resident of Naharana village, allegedly participated in the crime as well. The woman had asked the photographer to visit Balijori and take some shots of her pals on the advice of Parida. He got to the place and Parida attacked him.

After being released from the hospital, he was detained based on Mohanty's complaint. However, the accused woman has fled.
