Last Date For Fixing HSRP Extended In Odisha

Cuttack: The deadline in Odisha for installing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on older vehicles has been extended due to the continuing flood scenario.

The deadline for correcting the HSRP for vehicles with registration numbers ending in 1 and 2 that were registered in Odisha before April 1, 2019, has been moved from August 31 to September 30.

In a news release on Thursday, Dipti Ranjan Patra, Joint Commissioner, Transport, Technical, stated that no old vehicles with registration dates before to April 1, 2019, will be subject to e-challans, fines, or other sanctions for operating without HSRP until September 30.

Beginning on October 1, law enforcement organisations will require the installation of HSRP on older vehicles with Odisha registration marks and registration numbers that end in 1, 2, 3, and 4. According to Patra, an e-challan will be issued against the offending vehicle and would result in a punishment of Rs 5000 or Rs 10,000 under Section 192 of the MV Act, 1988, depending on the situation.

The process for attaching HSRP to other vehicle series follows the same schedule.

For older vehicles that were registered before April 1, 2019, the Transport Department has made the affixment of HSRP mandatory as of June 1 in accordance with Central Government modified Rule 50 of CMVR.

To ensure transparency and avoid overcharging vehicle owners, the OEMs have authorised an online platform in Odisha where vehicle owners can make reservations for the fitting of HSRP and pay for the service. The vehicle owner has the option to choose any location and time for the application of the HSRP via the portal authorised by the OEMs.

Patra continued, "As of August 24, a total of 7, 06,215 car owners have booked slots; HSRP has been installed in 4,08,680 of those vehicles."
