Keonjhar: The block education officer (BEO) of Ghatagaon in the Keonjhar district was arrested by Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday while reportedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
Abhay Kumar Behera has been recognised as the BEO.
The BEO was apprehended by the Vigilance team while he was accepting the bribe money from an assistant teacher, according to sources. This was the first instalment of the alleged Rs 60,000 he requested from a group of instructors to pay off their debts in arrears.
In order to identify disproportionate assets, a case has been filed under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and simultaneous searches have been conducted at three locations in the districts of Keonjhar and Jajpur.
