Odisha farmers to get Rs 2,000 KALIA assistance on Nuakhai
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday offered cash help of Rs 2,000 for each of our hardworking farmers under the Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) programme, praising their efforts and contribution to nation-building.
Sources claim that on September 1, 41 lakh farmers in Odisha will receive support via DBT in what might be described as a Nuakhai gift. The state government would allocate a total of Rs 869 crore in this respect.
On Akshaya Tritiya, the agricultural celebration signalling the start of the sowing of seeds for the kharif season in the state, about 40 lakh small and marginal farmers and landless farm labourers received the final instalment under the programme.
Western Odisha typically celebrates Nuakhai, an agricultural festival, one day after Ganesh Chaturthi.
When the KALIA programme first debuted in 2018, it promised Rs 10,000 annually. The first instalment of Rs 5,000 was transferred in December 2018 in advance of the concurrent Lok Sabha and state assembly elections in 2019, and the second instalment was transferred on May 29, 2019, the day Naveen took office as CM for a fifth term.
The government hopes to provide farmers with an all-encompassing and adaptable assistance system through the KALIA programme, ensuring rapid agricultural success. The program's duration was increased by three years in March.
