Odisha Govt extends HSRP application deadline by one month
Bhubaneswar: The high-security registration plate (HSRP) installation deadline in Odisha will be extended by one month.
According to sources, the state administration is expected to release a notification in this respect on Friday.
The government has submitted a request to the Orissa High Court to extend the window for HSRP slot reservations. Additionally, a suggestion has been made to allow reserving slots at post offices and public welfare agencies. According to sources, the next hearing date has been set on October 23.
The Orissa High Court on Wednesday requested a response from the State Transport Authority (STA) on whether the deadline can be further extended. The Orissa High Court questioned the logic behind setting deadlines for vehicles with different registration numbers without the necessary infrastructure in place. Earlier, due to the flood crisis, the deadline for attaching HSRPs to old vehicles with Odisha registration numbers ending in 1 and 2 was extended till September 30.
The STA notified the owners of these vehicles on September 26, giving them some breathing room. The transport authorities decided to exempt persons who had filed for HSRP online before the deadline but had not yet had it fitted from enforcement inspections and the penalty because Odisha had seen a rapid increase in online booking for HSRP fitment.
The STA said on September 15 that starting on October 1, anyone who have not installed HSRP on their vehicles with registration numbers ending in 1, 2, 3, or 4 will be subject to fines.
The government had previously established deadlines of October 31 for automobiles whose registration numbers finish with 5 and 6; November 30 for vehicles whose registration numbers end with 7 and 8; and December 31 for vehicles whose registration numbers end with 9 and 0.
