Odisha’s Iswar Chandra Nayak Receives National Award For Teachers-2022
Bhubaneswar: On Monday, President Droupadi Murmu presented Iswar Chandra Nayak of Odisha's Puri with the National Award for Teachers-2022 at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi in honour of Teachers' Day. He was the sole educator from Odisha to be recognised by the President.
Iswar, a teacher at the Government Upper Primary School in Kanpur in the Nimpara block of the Puri district, began his career in education about 21 years ago after quitting a well-paying engineering position.
Iswar was a brilliant student throughout his academic career and earned an engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT), Varanasi. He was regarded as the ideal teacher by both students and their parents. Iswar attended school in Puri despite being born in the Nimapada block village of Bangurus Patana.
He worked at reputable private companies all around the nation as a qualified engineer. Iswar completed a Bachelor of Education in 2001 and left his eight years as a professional engineer to work for the state government as an assistant teacher at a primary school, earning a pitiful monthly income of Rs 1,500. Even though his engineering profession paid well, he found that teaching and influencing the lives of young people gave him more happiness.
"In the 1990s, I worked for a lot of different companies, but that did not make me happy or provide me a fulfilling career. So I made the decision to go back to my hometown to work with kids and to intellectually support the preservation of our state's textile legacy, said Nayak, who was given the State Teachers Award by the government of Odisha in 2016.
In addition to instructing youngsters, he established a students' knowledge centre in his village in 2017 where students could receive free computer instruction and career guidance.
In 10 IIHTs around the nation, his work "Weaves in Textiles" is used as a reference. "To me, textiles and education go hand in hand. Both are equally vital, according to Nayak, who manages the YouTube channels "Chemistry Ganga" to help students understand the principles of chemistry and "Teachers Odia," which offers classes on teacher training.
Nayak Iswar, 50, a graduate of the Institution of Engineers in Kolkata, serves as a state resource person for the Department of School and Mass Education. Because of his publications in both academic and non-academic fields, he was given the coveted annual award presented by the Ministry of Education. The prize includes a silver medal, a monetary prize of Rs. 50,000, and a certificate of merit.
