Elderly man trampled to death by wild elephant in Dhenkanal
Dhenkanal: Early on Thursday, a wild elephant killed an old farmer in a village within the Hindol forest range in Odisha's Dhenkanal district.
Mahuli Pradhan, age 74, of Karanda village in the district's Rasol police station, has been identified as the deceased.
Reports state that the event happened when Pradhan was heading to his farmland outside of the community early in the morning. One of the gigantic elephants that had wandered into the community attacked the man, killing him there and then.
Following their notification, representatives from the forest department and local police hurried to the village to begin an investigation. The post-mortem of the body was done in a hospital.
The relatives of the deceased were to receive proper financial recompense, the locals asked.
They stated that in the past three weeks, wild elephants had killed at least four people nearby.
