Bhubaneswar: On Tuesday, Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP), on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, welcomed four new visitors from Arunachal Pradesh: two hoolock gibbons and as many leopard cats.

The four animals were brought from Itanagar Biological Park as part of an animal exchange program in which the NZP handed over two tigers - Rocky and Sohini - and three gharials after Central Zoo Authority approval.

On March 28, 2021, Bijaya and Saif gave birth to tiger Rocky, and Megha and Nandan gave birth to tigress Sohini on April 14, 2021. According to sources, Rocky and Sohini had been at Nandankanan for more than two years since their birth.

A team from Itanagar led by veterinary doctor Swarang Tadap visited Nandankanan earlier this month and transported the animals by road. A six-person team, including a veterinarian, also set out for Itanagar to retrieve the gibbons and leopard cats.
