Odisha STF seizes over 1.3kg brown sugar in Balasore; Bengal man held

Balasore: In the Balasore district on Thursday, the Special Task force (STF) sleuths of the Odisha police caught an interstate narcotics dealer carrying more than 1.3 kg of brown sugar.

Police sources state that the suspect, Sk Rafiq alias Ruga, of Panchkula, West Bengal, was apprehended following a raid at a hideout at Masjidgali close to Aradabazaar of the Sahadevkhunta area of the district by a team from the STF Crime Branch, Bhubaneswar, and their counterparts in Balasore.

Rafiq has already been involved in three other criminal cases, including the Balasore drug trafficking. He has been charged with violating the pertinent NDPS Act of 1985 clauses. The probe is being expanded upon.

Since 2020, the STF has conducted a particular drive against narcotic substances in which it has so far apprehended more than 158 drug dealers and recovered more than 57 kg of brown sugar (heroin), 202 gm of cocaine, over 111 quintals of ganja/marijuana, and 750 gm of opium.
