Odisha Minister Advises People to Avoid Panic Buying in the Event of Cyclone Asani
Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says it's too early to say whether the cyclonic circulation building over the South Andaman Sea and its environs will deepen into a cyclonic storm. If so, what is the likely path and location of landfall?
In the wake of the rumours, Odisha's Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain encouraged people to avoid panic shopping on Wednesday.
In light of the probable cyclone, Swain urged people not to buy or stockpile vital products excessively. It might lead to a market scarcity, with dealers taking advantage of the situation, he warned.
He cautioned black marketers of harsh punishment, saying the state administration was fully equipped to deal with the matter. There is plenty of food and other necessities on the market, so there is no need to be concerned.
The IMD reported on Wednesday morning that a cyclonic circulation has formed over the South Andaman Sea and its environs. Around May 6, it is expected to develop a low-pressure area over the same area, which will intensify over the next 24 hours.
Cyclone Asani will be called if it intensifies into a cyclone.
