Odisha BJP demands whitepaper on flood assessment report
Bhubaneswar: The state BJP on Thursday requested a "white paper" outlining the precise damage along with a list of those impacted by the inundation, calling the Odisha government's announcement of over Rs 128 crore in aid to the flood afflicted misleading and untrue.
Lekhashree Samantsinghar, state BJP general secretary, said the state government should disclose the information upon which assistance to the tune of Rs 128 crore has been provided, speaking at a news conference in Bhubaneswar.
"The state government should issue a white paper offering a detailed list of those affected by the recent floods at village, panchayat, and block levels," she added. "Instead of misleading people with incorrect information."
The BJP leader added that the government should inform the populace about the specifics of official visits to flood-affected areas, as well as the date, time, and location of such inspections for the purpose of assessing the damage brought on by the heavy rains and flooding. She said that just Rs 128 crore had been approved, and that it was primarily for the advantage of the politicians and supporters of the ruling Biju Janata Dal. "Based on what information, the government has declared the help," she questioned (BJD).
Samantsinghar accused the BJD Government of being solely negligent, ineffective, and unprepared for the catastrophic floods that occurred in August, and said that the calamity might have been avoided with the use of preventive measures.
She claimed that after creating a "man-made" flood, the government neglected to implement adequate relief, rescue, and rehabilitation measures, adding that neither ministers nor top officials made it to the afflicted districts to aid the populace.
Despite repeated demands, the government failed to conduct a proper evaluation of the damage caused by the floods and finally, a report was published in a rushed way, the BJP leader stated.
She claimed that the floods devastated standing crops on large tracts of farmland and accused the state administration of failing to provide homes for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana recipients (PMAY). She reported that as a result, numerous impoverished people's mud homes sustained significant damage.
