Jajpur: The family of a 15-year-old girl who vanished after her tuition lesson was found dead in a pond at a village in Odisha's Jajpur district, according to reports on Sunday. Her family claims that she was murdered.
On Saturday night, the event happened close to Nandipur Village, which is under the control of Mangalpur Police Station.
The young girl, identified as Amrita Das of Barikul village, left for the afternoon tutoring class but did not come back. Worried family members suspected foul play as soon as she vanished and started a hunt to find her, they claimed.
Her father Amulya Das said his daughter returns home after tuition between 6 pm and 6.20 pm, but did not come back on Saturday.
Teacher Bishnu Charan Pathy said the Class IX student reached for tuition at 4 pm and left along with other girls at around 6 pm. However, her mother and a relative came looking for her and informed that she had not yet returned home.
After a thorough search at various places, the girl was found floating in the village pond late in the night. Her bag and cycle were lying near the pond. She was rushed to the district headquarters hospital in Jajpur, where doctors declared her dead.
Although the cause of her death was not yet known, the girl's family suggested that she may have been murdered and the body thrown into the pond.
A police team hastened to the area and, with the aid of a scientific team, began an inquiry into the incident. Additionally, the body was submitted for a postmortem.
The child allegedly replied when some young people made inappropriate comments to her recently, according to family members. They said that the teens had made retaliation threats. The girl's father stated, "We assume that someone killed her and then put her body in the pond.
