Gambling Racket Busted In Berhampur; 15 Arrested

Berhampur: Police tightened the noose on gamblers by detaining 15 people for allegedly participating in an unlawful racket in a village in the Ganjam district of Odisha.
A team of police officers raided a home in Saru village, which is under the control of Hinjili police boundaries, on Saturday night in response to a tip, and they were able to apprehend 15 people who were gambling there.
The suspects, the most of them were from Saru village, had two motorcycles, Rs. 1.53 lakh in cash, and 18 cell phones seized from them. Police said they are working to apprehend a number of other suspects in the scheme.
The accused have been the subject of a case under the pertinent IPC sections.
It should be remembered that Odisha forbids gambling. The state of Odisha has rendered gambling against the law and a criminal violation under the Odisha Prevention of Gambling Act, 1955.
