CB Arrests Territorial Sales Manager of Pvt Firm for Pre-Activated SIM Card Racket
Bhubaneswar: Deepak Nayak, the territory sales manager of a private telecom provider, has been arrested by the Odisha Crime Branch, which is investigating the pre-activated SIM card racket.
Dushmant Sahu, Sai Prakash Das, and Avinash Nayak were arrested and had 19,641 SIM cards, Rs 14 lakh cash, 48 mobile phones, fingerprinting scanners, credit cards, bank passbooks, a laptop, 440 passport size photographs, 394 voter ID cards, five Aadhaar cards, 11 QR code boards, and 108 customer application forms seized from their possession.
Dushmant was the mastermind, while Sai Prakash and Avinash ran a shop selling pre-activated SIM cards and other mobile phone accessories.
Dushmanat had joined the Facebook group "Buyer Seller of OTP." Das and Nayak gave him pre-activated BSNL, Jio, Vodafone, and Airtel SIMs, which he shared with the group. He charged Rs 400 for each SIM and OTP combination.
The CB had issued notices for questioning to the Dhenkanal heads of BSNL and Jio, as well as Vodafone's Commercial Manager in Bhubaneswar, in relation to the suspected distribution of pre-activated SIM cards.
Two Paytm accounts linked to Sahu with Rs 30 lakh allegedly linked to the scheme were also discovered during the probe. So far, five people have been arrested in connection with the case.
